Malik Mughis Masjid
Malik Mughis Masjid
- Built at Mandu in A.D. 1452.
- Considered to be among the best of the series and a typical example.
- Some of the temple pillars used here are rubbed and worn, indicating that the supply of temple material was wearing thin.
- The mosque is built on a high plinth measuring 150' long by 132' wide and approached by a flight of steps.
- There is also a series of arched chambers in the basement of its eastern exterior.
- The arcaded portico on the east has a domical turret on each corner in the front.
- The courtyard is a square of 100' side.
- The sanctuary is of the open pillared variety.
- Three 'boat-keel' domes rise above this pillared frontage each of equal size, supported on octagonal drums and encircled with a bold parapet of merlons.
- The sanctuary is 4 aisles deep, with the usual range of decorative mihrabs on the qibla wall.
- At 3 places, the pillars are arranged to provide octagonal open spaces, forming a nave and two aisles. The intervals between the arches is filled with pointed arches while above is the dome.
